Intentions rather than Resolutions

Intentions rather than Resolutions

Before anything else, let me just say that I got the idea of the subject line from the Facebook page of Barre3, an exercise studio located in various The Spa branches. One of the teachers of the class, said that this 2011, she would like to set intentions rather than resolutions.

Now, I looked up both words in online dictionaries ( Dictionary.com and Merriam-Websiter.com) but I can’t fully grasp the difference of the two. Intention is a determination to act in a certain way and resolution is a resolve or determination. Then again, one of the definitions of the latter is “something that is resolved” which to me is something that is fixed. With that, I’ve decided that, as mentioned in the subject line, for 2011, I will make intentions rather than resolutions. So here goes...

I intend to... continue running, completing a few more 10Ks and leveling up to a 15 or 16k (a new category. In addition to this, I also intend to continue going to the gym and possibly adding another activity in the mix – barre3.

I intend to... double up my current savings or at least reach 75% of that target. I haven’t exactly figured out how to achieve this but by hook or by crook or something, I will do this. Just to be clear, savings will not only include those in my bank account but also those that may be in stocks or other form of fund accounts (ie. retirement fund, mutual fund)

I intend to... update my resume. Since my Ateneo days, I’ve only made minor adjustments to my resume and I think it’s time for an overhaul to be more professional-looking, and more impressive. Who knows, that might be just the step needed in making the previous intention more attainable :P

I intend to... get my US tourist visa. I know I should’ve done this years ago after my first visit but I’ve been too lazy to really focus on this. I really want to go back and visit again so it’s really something that needs to be done.

I intend to... go for a local and international trip. Well, the local trip is already set (courtesy of Mabuhay Miles) – it’s just a matter of ironing out the little details. As for the international one, the tropa’s planning on booking the flight and accommodation during the upcoming Travel Expo so we’re crossing our fingers that we’ll be able to snag a good deal there. If not, well, there’s always the trusty CebuPac promos.

I intend to... read at least fifteen (15) books.
I intend to... write in my LiveJournal at least once a month.

Sad to say, 2010 saw a decline in me doing the two items listed above. I’m quantifying the number of books I will read because if not, I might be tempted to read just one (which I did already, hurray for me!) and call it done. Same goes with posting an entry in my LJ. This year, I really plan to go back to doing things that I love – reading and writing.

I intend to... donate blood at least three times. This is something that I’ve always wanted to do since college. Why only three, you ask? Well, a person can only donate blood every three months so I can’t really force the issue. I’ll be writing an entry about this (an being an organ donor) in the near future.

I intend to... try new restaurants. What can I say? We love food. Hmm, on that note, and to give a broader scope, I intend to try new things – like shooting. :) Maybe hair highlights as well? Haha. I already tried having long curly hair, short straight hair, long straight hair – what else is there? Maybe bangs? Err, no. Ah, basta, something new. :D

I intend to... be more “girlish.” Haha. I know that came out of nowhere. I like dressing up as much as the next person but only for special occasions – weddings, parties, etc. But this time, I’d like to try it out during “casual” days. I already started it last Christmas and New Year.

I intend to... learn to cook a meal, which I’ll be serving to my one and only. Enough said. :) (Those who know me can swear that I can’t cook for the life of me so this will be a challenge.)

So that’s it – 11 things I intend to do in 2011. I know some of the things above are simple things and you might scoff at them – why would I bother writing it down in my intentions when I should’ve done them ages ago, right? But then again, the so-called “simple things” are those usually overlooked by many because as they say, it’s “simple.” This is exactly why I’m writing them down.

Before the year ends, I’ll be reviewing this list and let’s see how many I’ve done. I sure hope that I get to check all of them. :)

I love your concept of intentions rather than resolutions. :)

Also so so happy to read that you're going to write more in LJ! I miss seeing my friends page filled with new things. :)

Keep us updated in LJ land as to what books you read also! Curious ako siyempre as a fellow book lover.

Amazingly enough, this journal has been up since October 2002. There were times that I rarely posted anything, and times that I posted almost daily. I guess it depends on my mood. That, and the privacy of my thoughts - some of which are only for my real (handwritten) journal.

I'm living life, and loving it. Creating moments, capturing them and cherishing it. This journal is one of the ways of capturing them. Anyway, I just want to say HI to you. However you came across this site, thank you for visiting. I'm really a private person so other entries are locked. So there. That's it, you may go on reading my thoughts and opinions about everything and anything. :)

I'm Karen, btw.
